Better Bus Services For Booming Northern Suburbs

18 September, 2025

The Allan Labor Government is boosting public transport in Melbourne’s North, with 641 extra services across eight major bus routes around Craigieburn, Donnybrook, Kalkallo and Roxburgh Park – helping working families get to where they need to go.

From Sunday, 5 October bus routes 524 and 543 will travel to more places, more often, helping Victorians in Northern suburbs get to work, the shops, and school. Routes 525, 528, 529, 533, 537 will have more trips and longer operating hours, with services running later into the evening most days of the week.

Route 543 will see a major uplift, with 183 new trips per week, earlier starts and later finishes. The new extension will connect residents in Greenvale and Greenvale North to Craigieburn Central and Roxburgh Park Station. Weekday buses will come every 20 minutes during the peak, coordinating with trains at Roxburgh Park Station.

Route 524 will benefit from 173 new trips each week and will be extended along Cloverton Boulevard to Kalkallo – linking passengers to Donnybrook Station and Kallo Town Centre, making travel faster and more convenient.

Commuters will also benefit from extended operating hours till midnight on major routes that connect into Craigieburn Station. This will deliver better connections to major local destinations and schools including Craigieburn Central Shopping Centre, Craigieburn Plaza, and Highlands Shopping centre.

These extra 285 services on Routes 525, 528, 529, 533 and 537 will give locals and shift workers more ways to travel, whether it's coming back from Saturday night footy, late-night shopping, or coming home after work.

Route 511 will also now run along the Hume Highway to Craigieburn Station, connecting the community of Beveridge to the metropolitan train network – and next year, the Route 511 will receive an uplift in frequency and expand to cover more of Beveridge.

The new services were funded through the Victorian Budget 2025/26 and the Growth Area Infrastructure Contribution fund, delivering better access to bus services across growing communities in Melbourne.

Timetables and more information on the extended bus routes will be available from 19 September at transport.vic.gov.au.
