Labor Opens School For Free Hands-On Stem Learning

The Carroll Labor Government has opened a state-of-the-art Tech School in Broadmeadows.

The new $15.7 million facility means more than 20,000 Victorian students can access free, immersive STEM learning.

Hume Tech School, at Kangan Institute's Broadmeadows campus, builds in-demand skills for the jobs of the future.

It means more public and non-government school students can choose the career pathway that’s best for them.

Free courses include renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, health technologies and robotics and automation.

Students will get hands-on opportunities like designing 3D-printed medical devices and building clean energy systems.

Labor has also made free transport available for local students to and from the new facility, making it easier than ever to access the education they deserve.

Hume Tech School is the fourth of six new Tech Schools opening across the state, thanks to Labor's $116 million investment in STEM learning.

Two more Tech Schools are opening in Term 3, 2026 in Wangaratta and Warrnambool. Once all six are open, more than 62,000 students will have free access to hands-on, immersive STEM learning.

Only Labor is making sure every child, no matter their postcode, gets a world-class public education, close to home.

When Jess Wilson’s Liberals were last in government, they cut $1 billion from education.

Now, they plan to cut $40 billion from the state budget, and you can’t cut $40 billion without cutting schools.
